Nasrin Akhter

NANasrin Akhter is a PhD candidate at the Centre for Syrian Studies, University of St Andrews and is currently working as a Junior Scholar at the Carnegie Endowment in Beirut (November- December 2013). She completed a Master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Durham and also has a BA in Politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. Prior to joining St Andrews, Nasrin worked as an English Tutor for the British Council in Damascus (2005-2007) and an IELTS examiner for International House in Tehran. Her research project entitled ‘The Syrian-Hezbollah-Hamas Nexus: Understanding the Dynamics of a Complex Alliance’ focuses on Syria’s relationship with foreign Islamist movements from the mid-1980s to the present.
