In a recent CNN interview with Fareed Zakaria, Joshua Landis (University of Oklahoma) proposed what was described as “an innovative solution to the ongoing Syrian crisis.” This solution, as Landis explained, entails the partition of the country into a “Sunni Northern Syria” and a “Southern Syria.”

In its second series of blog posts on the Syrian Uprising, the Centre for Syrian Studies at the University of St Andrews asked scholars affiliated with the Centre to provide their thoughts on whether or not they regard the division of Syria as an inevitable part of a future solution to the crisis.
