The Syrian Uprising – First recorded demonstration in Damascus

17 February, 2011 – A demonstration was held in protest of a police beating of a local shop keeper. Protesters chanted The Syrian people cannot be humiliated. The Minister of Interior arrived at the scene and urged the protesters to disperse, promising an investigation into that alleged incident of police brutality.
